Method

  5. Adjust the heat to maintain a gentle simmer; you should hear soft crackling and see consistent bubbling.
  6. Let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors and fragrances to intensify and permeate the air.
  7. Check periodically, adding more water if necessary to prevent drying out, and gently stirring with a wooden spoon to combine flavors.
  8. Once the mixture is rich with scent and visibly fragrant, turn off the heat and carefully remove the large spice sticks if desired, or leave them in for continued aroma release.
