Ingredients

  • 4 fillets salmon fillets preferably skin-on
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun spice mix homemade or store-bought
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for brushing
  • 1 lemon wedge for serving
  • to taste salt season generously
  • to taste black pepper freshly cracked

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Bowl
  • Brush or spray
  • Lemon

Method

  1. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the spice rub adhere better and promotes crisping.
  2. Mix the Cajun spice blend with a pinch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper in a small bowl to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  3. Brush the salmon fillets lightly with olive oil on all sides; this helps the spices stick and encourages a crispy exterior.
  4. Generously sprinkle the Cajun spice mixture over the flesh side of each fillet, pressing it in slightly to ensure it adheres well and forms a flavorful crust.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes to ensure rapid, even cooking and crisping.
  6. Place the seasoned salmon fillets skin-side down in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching to allow proper air circulation.
  7. Cook the salmon at 400°F for 8-10 minutes, or until the surface is crispy and golden, and the fish flakes easily with a fork. Check around the 8-minute mark to prevent overcooking.
  8. Once done, carefully remove the fillets from the air fryer and let them rest for a minute to settle the juices.
  9. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the hot fillets to add brightness and balance the smoky spices, then garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired.
  10. Serve immediately with additional lemon wedges on the side for an extra citrusy punch and enjoy the crispy, flavorful salmon.

Notes

Adjust spice levels to your preference. For extra crispiness, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
